about
In early January 2022, I came across a patch of defiant early Iris's, pushing up through the snow.
Their delicate determination moved me deeply.
Out of this quiet encounter, I heard this song come through,
first as a whisper, and it began to sing through my voice.
I shared it with a friend who encouraged me to share it on Facebook / Instagram and the wonderful Terrence Pompey heard it, and brought the strings and drums.
The powerful Elana Brody brought her angelic presence to this track. This Spring Song tells of the journey from winter to spring, and the triumph of life over death.
This song chooses the full moon of Purim to be released into the world, a day once fated to have murderous events taking place, but because of the delicate beauty and voice of Esther, the fate of the world was changed.
lyrics
Blossoms are emerging through this dark cold night
Flowers are a'blooming, unafraid of the light
Owls are a hooting, calling for their mate
Squirrels keep on chewing, winter ain't over quite yet
Spring's coming alive in me
Spring's coming alive
Breaking through the frozen ground
Pushing up with all her might
Seeds are a'dreaming of the flowers they'll come to be
Light is a beaming dancing in the breeze
Life is awakening up from her sleep
Songs are a singing up through you and me
Spring's coming alive in me
Spring's coming alive
Breaking through the frozen groun
Pushing up with all her might

Mixing and Mastering Engineer: Nich Jones
Background Vocals: Elana Brody
Birds: Blackpoll Warbler Spring Song
Inspiration: This song was first recorded on the anniversary of my grandfather's passing, Rabbi Mordechai Rubin z"l. The 2nd recording coincided with the day of my nephew's birth. My nephew now carries the name Mordechai Rubin. May the love and courage to blossom, forever flow from generation to generation.
Thank you to the Blackpoll Warblers for making the courageous journey from South America to Upstate NY, to mate. This Spring Song chorus is blessed by your presence. These birds are endangered because of the human built environment. May your song never end.
